Development of the concept of teaching materials for the design thinking laboratory at Sberbank of Russia

Creation of the structure, materials and prototype of illustrations, coordination of design elements and content with a group of customers.

The goal

was to develop prototypes that help conduct design research when creating and implementing new bank products. And my part of the job was to prepare and test manuals for three user roles: facilitator, project leader, and participant.

So I took as a prototype the instructions for the project leader. I chose to start with the leader because the structure of this manual included blocks that were repeated in the other two role groups, but at the same time, the leader needed to think over a system of prompts and additional materials that could help him work with the team and work with different, including negative test results.

To make a prototype quickly, show it to other project participants, and easily make changes, I used the free features of Google presentations.

Step 1

At the first stage, I had to make a structure, come up with a visual image of the instructions and write texts. Then all the training manuals were checked by bank employees and offered their ideas to improve the content.

Step 2

After agreeing on the basic structure and design within the team, I prepared the first version of the instruction with illustrations and my archival photographs from the studies in which I participated in the bank.

In between Step 1 and Step 2, I had to come up with and draw all the pictures and icons for the instructions, and then I handed them over to a professional artist to transfer these ideas to the corporate style of the company.

I didn't know how to draw at all and it was a real challenge for me.

Step 3 - test in real life

In order to test the instructions and make them useful to employees, participants in several design studies at the retail branch of Sberbank received these instructions.

Based on the feedback from potential users collected as part of this test, I changed a few instructions and added links to the bank's internal textbook library.

Step 4 - transfer to the customer

The last stage of my work included the preparation of materials and their transfer to the team and the designer of the bank.

Further, based on my concepts of instructions, over the course of several months, the bank team made real manuals with professional photos and design.
